About Me
My love of and obsession with fashion began as a small child, watching my mother dress to go out to events with my father. My mother was what is termed a “clothes horse” there wasn’t a look she couldn’t pull off. To me she seemed incredibly glamourous and I’d spend hours in her wardrobe trying on dresses and clomping round in heels.
By the time I reached 16 the realisation that study wasn’t for me led me to start work in a small local boutique in West Perth, learning the ropes, literally from the stockroom to the shop floor. From there I moved on to work for some of Australia and New Zealand’s most loved and iconic brands both here, on the East Coast of Australia and a stint in NZ assisting the move across the Tasman of a large Australian fashion retailer. Each experience added another layer to my knowledge of the industry and furthered my passion for fabrics, design, the quality of the cut of a garment and how they all worked together. Once I reached my mid-twenties, with almost 10 years under my belt the psychology of how clothing, colour and fit could be transformative for clients became the driving force behind my job satisfaction. Working with someone to look and feel their best is a rewarding way to earn a living. When my beautiful son came into my life at 30, it was time to look at an alternative to the long hours of retail and find a new skill set. My love of fabric and colour was still a passion so furniture and Interior Design seemed a natural progression. It wasn’t as easy a move as I’d thought, there was so much to learn about furniture, it’s design and construction and how it worked in a space.
For the past 20 years I’ve worked with some of the best designers in WA, soaking up everything possible, each one with a different look or brand uniquely their own. For the past 9 years I was fortunate to run the WA office for a large national business that specialises in furnishing and finishing Display Homes across WA. Through this time, I visited Trade and Design Fairs both nationally and internationally, worked with Trend Forecasters, renowned designers and suppliers continually building on my knowledge of the industry. The experience of working on hundreds of Display Homes and with many private residential clients throughout the years has provided me with a broad range of skills perfect to assist clients achieve an outstanding result. Recently, like many during the Pandemic, my role became non-existent and I found myself at a crossroad…. which way to go? Find a similar role for with another business, or use my skillset to start my own business helping people transform their life, home and image? The decision was actually an uncomplicated one and Indigo Creative Co was founded.
